Community Outreach

From its inception, the AFI DALLAS International Film Festival has collaborated and partnered with other film, arts, cultural and community organizations in the area. AFI DALLAS aligns itself as Community Partners with a number of these organizations to create a series of co-hosted screenings. The Festival works with these groups to select programming that appeal specifically to their constituencies. The Community Partners promote those selected films to their constituents and they co-host the screenings. In return, AFI DALLAS provides the organizations with valuable exposure to its audience, including website presence, recognition in printed materials and the opportunity to distribute information to filmmakers and at AFI DALLAS venues. The relationship with the other film festivals of North Texas has been particularly important in this process. AFI DALLAS' goal is to promote and celebrate the entire area's film community, so we have worked to develop relationships of mutual respect and support. We want to create an atmosphere that allows Dallas to become known throughout the worldwide film community as a city of film festivals. In that vein, AFI DALLAS has also reached out to film and video professionals in the area, partnering with their associations to spread the word and highlight the accomplishments of filmmakers across the state and region.

AFI DALLAS, with help from our Community Partners, is also giving access to the Festival to people and families who might not otherwise be able to attend. The North Texas Food Bank distributed to its clients and agencies 2,000 free family passes to the Festival's family-friendly programming. In addition, AFI DALLAS supported the North Texas Food Bank's programs by co-sponsoring the Cans Film Festival, an online food drive, and a ticket discount to any audience member who brings a food donation to an AFI DALLAS venue. Additionally, hospitals, churches and other community service agencies received over 1,000 complimentary vouchers to distribute to their constituencies.

Community, cultural and arts groups across the region welcomed and encouraged AFI DALLAS in its inaugural year and continued to support us in our sophomore effort.
